Little Known Secrets of the Successful in Managing Finances

I want money, lots and lots of money
I want the pie in the sky
I want money, lots and lots of money So don't be asking me why

    I wanna be rich, ohh
    I wanna be rich, ohh
    I wanna be rich, ohh

I wanna be rich for a little love, peace and happiness

    Now sing with me! :-)

As I am writing this post, I can't help but sing this song  way back in the 90s. Let's face it, all of us wants to become rich and successful. A lot of us is working so hard to pursue riches and to fullfill a dream for ourselves, for our family and love ones.

Pero paano nga ba? Is there really a formula?

Few weeks ago, I attended a gathering with Mr. Chinkee Tan as one of the guest speakers, and one of the things that I learned  from this talk is that you cannot be just successful with just a magic spell or just by luck or chance. Great things were accomplished by those who had great faith. And they have accompanied their freedom and opportunity with right foundation, right mindset and right ingredients.

    A True to Life Story

A friend  is about to get married this June. While preparing for the wedding, her mother was diagnosed with rectal cancer and was hospitalized at a primary hospital in the South. Total hospital bills rose up to more than Php 800,000 and my friend was left with a Php 500,000 debt.

Her story was an eye-opener for us. Aside from taking care of our health, we should be ready for unexpected situations and should start to manage our finances NOW!

What could have been wrong? Can we avoid this kind of situation?

Confession of a Benefit Card-o-holic : How to Save While Spending

I am not a shop-a-holic! "Hindi ako kuripot at hindi naman din ako big spender". Let's just say that every peso I spent should give me something in return that will make me a better person. I work hard and money does not grow on trees.

If there will be a Philippine edition of Extreme Couponing, I already see myself to be on that show. Although couponing is not that famous here in the Philippines as a marketing tool, I think I will be the right resource person to be interviewed on how I used or should I say "abused" my BPI credit card in feeding my guests on my birthday party without spending. "Oh I spent pala for the drinks, eh di wow!" And before you judge me on my spending habbits, let me tell you that I pay all my dues before the due date. "Sabi nga, sayang ang points!"

There were also times (read as a lot of times), when you have a budget to consider but you still want to explore and experience the "other side of the world" (read as luxury) and you were given an irresistible upgrade, freebie or a discount  and you will just say "Yes" while your eyes twinkle with happiness. Don't you just love that feeling? I do!

I can still recall that feeling when a hotel front desk staff informed me that we were given free room upgrade, free drinks from the bar, 50% off on our second night. That feeling when you pay only half of what you could have paid for it will make you do the happy dance.

Other cards offer voucher type benefits like 50% off on dining,  cash vouchers, freebies, upgrades, free services, special rates, trial class, free consultation, while others were giving an outright discount for every product purchased.

Discounts and freebies given by a store/supplier/company  makes me feel appreciated. It makes me feel special. It doesn't not matter whether it's a free drink, 5% discount , or another 5% on your next visit, as long as they are giving me an added value.

But before I avail of a certain benefit card, I always read the fine print and ask the following questions :

    1. Will I visit the partner establishments in the next 12 months?
    2. Are there expiry dates? Vouchers usually have expiry dates and must be use before it expires. They also have restrictions that needs to be followed.
    3. Is it for free? If not, how much and is it sulit? (with Kris Aquino voice)

So here are some benefit cards that makes it on my JLofied list of  2015 Top Benefit Cards

Mompreneurs : The Secrets of the Hardest Working People in Business Revealed

One fine day at the office
I've seen, met and connected with a lot of women like me who juggles family, carreer and business. How do you think they balance the ultimate balancing act?

A lot of mompreneurs admit that they face a lot of challenges , one of the main challenge is not having the right support staff to help them run their business. Mompreneurs tends to do it all, all by themselves.

Some friends on social media calls me "Superwo-mom", maybe they were amazed on how I was able to handle all those roles that I am playing on a daily basis. I am not  "Darna", there are some areas in my life that needs to be worked on, and I am carefully planning and working on it.

Sometimes being 'overly' passionate in something is not healthy anymore, and all it takes is a little planning to survive and achieve that Work-Life balance.

Here are some JLofied survival tips for mompreneurs out there:

Playing with the Kids at the Shop

    1. Tell clients upfront that you have a corporate day job, work after a certain hour, and answer emails, messages at a certain time.

    2. Create a kid-friendly workspace. Set up an area where they can do crafts or do their assignments and projects while you are working.

    "Ding ang Bato!" DARNA!

    3. You are only Human. Work hard, do what you can, but at the end of the day remind yourself that you are human and not a super hero.

    4. Take a Step Back. Let your business grow at a slower pace.

    5. Make lists, and more lists. Never go out without your power planner / organizer.

    6. Practice the 80/20 rule. You don't need to keep up to all your customers. There will always be tomorrow and learn to say No.

    7. Maximize the use of technology. Automate as much as possible.

    8.  Maximize your time and get organized. Cure yourself of e-mail dependency. Switch it off when you don't want to be distracted. Allocate yourself set times daily to focus on it.

    9. Develop speed skills.

    10. Delegate with confidence. Ask your self if you need to do that job, if you're answer is no look for someone else who could have and would have done that job. Hiring a virtual assistant could be an example.

Are you ready to be one? It takes a lot of hard work but it can be rewarding. Follow your dreams, follow your heart and avoid procastination. Do it now!

In case it will not turn out right as the way your expect it, don't worry experience is already a form of success in itself.

Three (3) Membership Cards that Every Filipino Event Planners, Bloggers and Other Freelancers Must Have

When I embraced the the world of Social Media early this year, I entered a new world wherein some online friends knows me more than my real friends.  I get to meet some during events, while there are still some that I am still looking forward to meet in person someday.

At some point, I am envious of their flexible time schedules, no rush hours, can work with their jammies on and more. I would like to make it clear that I am writing this having  a perspective of a  regular employee  receiving competitive salary and perks.

According to Coach Genesis Reonico of Online Jobs University, almost 2 million Filipinos are working from home doing projects for various companies and individuals internationally. The figure does not include other freelancers yet such as  event planners, photographers, musicians and artists.

Though the advantages of being a freelancers are plenty, you need to have a strong discipline to make your dream lifestyle happens.  Big projects will sure come along the way and you will be paid really well.

What do I mean about this discipline? I am referring to planning about the future. As a freelancer, you have to bear in mind that you are your own employer and that you should also provide benefits and perks to yourself as your own employee.

To help you with this, I came up with a list of  "must haves"  that every planners, bloggers, and other freelancers  to consider to help you plan for the future.

Maternity benefit - is a daily cash allowance granted to female member who was unable to work due to childbirth or miscarriage.

Death benefit - is a cash benefit either in monthly pension or lump sum paid to the beneficiaries of a deceased member.

    Benefits and Programs :
    1. Membership Programs
    2. Provident Savings

For a minimum monthly contribution of 200 pesos, a self-employed person regardless of trade, business or occupation, with an income of at least P1,000 a month and not over sixty (60) years old can be a member of the Fund.

    Housing Loan Availment :

Two (2) modes of applying for a Pag-IBIG housing loan :
    (a) Developer - Assisted - the developer assists the member in his/her housing loan application and
